The gardens have been closed since last December when the fire tore through Ventura. Since then, more than 1,500 volunteers have joined the nonprofit’s small staff to help get the gardens back in shape. The first phase of opening happened earlier this month with big plans for the future. The master plan, approved by city officials, envisions a 30-year buildout to include six garden areas (California, Chilean, Mediterranean, Australia, Cape, and The Ramble) and four zones (Welcome, Heritage, Discover, and Horticulture).
Participants of the Turkey Trot will have fun while raising necessary funds for this local landmark. Runners are also asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging Food Drive.
