SILVER STRAND BEACH
Silver Strand Beach is a level, white sand beach that fronts a small pocket community in Oxnard. The beach stretches one mile from the mouth of Channel Islands Harbor to Point Hueneme, at the mouth of Port Hueneme Harbor. La Janelle Park sits on Point Hueneme at the south end of the sandy beach. The park borders the Port Hueneme Naval Construction Battalion Center, which nearly surrounds Port Hueneme Harbor. This hike strolls along the oceanfront from Channel Islands Harbor to La Janelle Park. In April, 1970, the S.S. La Jenelle, a 12,000-ton pleasure ship, ran aground in a storm. The wreck, just offshore of Point Hueneme, was filled with rocks and converted into a fishing jetty. The park and offshore area is now a popular fishing and surfing spot, this beach is home to many full time residents. Public restrooms are at the north end of the beach and parking is free from sunrise to sunset in two lots: one adjacent to San Nicholas Road, and the other adjacent to Sawtelle Avenue.
