Head’s up, Irish-for-a-day revelers this St. Patrick’s Day! The time is nigh to apply to participate in County Ventura’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. You have until March 7, actually. For 2019, the luck o’ the Irish isn’t necessary to wade through a complicated application as the process has been streamlined via an online procedure. All you have to do is fill out this registration form, send it in and pay the $30 entrance fee. Easy as finding a pot of gold!
The leprechaun luck this year has the popular parade, hosted by Ventura Elks Lodge No. 1430, falling smack dab on March 17, St Patrick’s Day. Sidewalks are jam-packed with festive parade-goers and even their doggies decked out in 50 shades of green! Witness for FREE floats traversing the cobblestone streets of four-leaf-clover-lined Main Street at the top o’ the morn’, (10 am) Saturday, March 16. Don’t forget to wear your Green!
This year’s parade theme is extra special: Memories of the Past. That makes sense since the parade started 30 years ago by when local Councilman Jim Monahan had a crazy whim. “We need a parade”. That’s all it took. The parade committee is still comprised of most of its original crew. Every year it grows. Last year, 90 entries participated.
Parade Route: The parade starts on East Main Street in front of the San Buenaventura Mission and continues up East Main Street and ends at the corner of North Chestnut Street and East Main Street.

Post Parade Shenanigans
When the parade ends, the party begins at local bars. Crowds pour into nearby Winchester’s Bar & Grill. The street front patio overflows with hooligans slugging back local brews. Dargan’s Irish pub down the street is another favorite. Many watering holes along Main Street will get a nice post parade showing like San Souci, The Saloon, Star Lounge, Bombay’s.
Local eateries get on board offering Irish fare. We’re talking the best corned beef and cabbage, Irish stew, etc. Plus, there’s no shortage of green beer slinging at the pubs/bars. Look to our plentiful breweries like the Anacapa Brewing Co. for Irish themed craft beer concoctions. Since Ventura is home to the Claddagh Dance Company, a world-renowned Irish Dance studio, watch for members of the traditional curly haired troupes make appearances clogging at bars & pubs around town.
